The personal note from Dr Kamila

I started this podcast because I want to have the conversations I wished someone had with me at the beginning of my 30s - when I was stressed to the bone, finishing my doctorate, getting married, renovating huge house and doing all that in a foreign country. My hormones have already declined (temporarily) in response to 10 years on contraceptives, and I had no clue that the level of stress (I was happily enduring at the time), was setting me up for a rather bumpy perimenopause 12 years later, when another wave of huge stress arrived in my life - a dragging divorce, resurfaced childhood trauma and 4 years without a fix adobe.

In this podcast we will talk about anything "mid-life", about starting over, about all the things women are going through quietly and alone. You will hear from people whose voices, stories or expertise can be helpful in making your journey through perimenopause not just less bumpy, but joyful. I genuinely wish you will thrive in perimenopause and beyond.

With joy, Dr Kamila Hortynska

Real perimenopause conversations. All in one place. Nothing left out.

Over the last few years I searched everywhere for a place with conversations about everything that women in midlife actually experience. Not only the typical medical or beauty-focused content, but also discussions around psychological, relational and spiritual aspects of perimenopause. All in one place. Real, unhurried conversations with women and practitioners who genuinely know this territory from all angles possible.

I could not find what I needed. So I am creating it.

Each episode explores a different aspect of perimenopause — sometimes it will be a conversation about HRT and the questions women are afraid to ask their doctors. Sometimes it will be a herbalist talking about natural approaches to managing symptoms. Sometimes a psychologist discussing how perimenopause affects women who also have ADHD. A hairdresser talking about hair thinning and the quiet grief that comes with it. A fitness trainer on why the body responds differently now, and how to work with it rather than against it. An astrologer exploring why so many women experience a profound inner awakening around the age of forty.

Personal, medical, scientific, spiritual — all of it belongs here. Because perimenopause touches every part of a woman's life, and every part deserves an honest conversation.

The medical knowledge you were never properly given

Hormones, HRT, functional medicine, testing, nutrition — every episode that explores the science of perimenopause is designed to give you the clear, complete understanding that a ten-minute GP appointment simply cannot.

The wider world of support beyond conventional medicine

Herbal medicine, acupuncture, feng shui, astrology — there is a whole landscape of approaches that women find genuinely helpful during perimenopause, and this podcast explores all of it without judgment.

The physical changes that feel too personal to mention

Hair thinning, skin changes, weight shifts, aesthetic treatments — the parts of perimenopause that affect how you see yourself every single day, and that deserve a thoughtful, honest conversation.

The inner transformation that nobody prepared you for

Many women find that perimenopause brings a profound shift in who they are — their relationships, their sense of purpose, even where they want to live. That part of the experience belongs here too.

"The gap between what women experience in perimenopause and the support they receive is staggering. This podcast exists to close that gap — one conversation at a time."

25 years of clinical work and the lived experience that changes everything.

I am a Clinical Psychologist, Functional Medicine Practitioner, and Mindfulness Teacher. I’ve been in clinical practice for over 25 years — including ten years working within the NHS — I have worked with over a thousand women on individual bases and many more in group programs and online courses. I have sat with women in burnout, in grief, in anxiety, in the particular kind of confusion that comes when your body starts behaving in ways nobody has ever explained to you.

When my own perimenopause began, I was not prepared for it — even with all my clinical training. I visited different doctors. I described my symptoms carefully. And repeatedly, I was told that everything looked normal.

That experience — combined with everything I have learned across 25 years of practice — is what shaped this podcast. I rebuilt my life in my forties: a divorce, a career shift, moving to a different country. It was not a smooth process. But I came through it with a clarity and a sense of purpose I had never had before. That is what I want for every woman who listens to this podcast.
